Sunnie | Newborn Session

The sweet little grunts and noises that newborn tiny babies make are music to my ears. Every session makes me feel incredibly blessed, but this one will always have a special place in my heart.

When parents ask for something new and different, my artistic heart is overjoyed! Sunnie’s momma did a maternity session with me, and asked for a basic wrapped newborn session with a fun twist: a portion of black-on-black photos to match her own. I jumped at the opportunity because simple-yet-elegant is my go-to style. There is much to be said about minimalism. A simple, uncomplicated backdrop can evoke so many emotions, and really bring out the beauty of the subject, or in this case, sweet little Sunnie.

Although Sunnie made her appearance early, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect for what mom had in mind. I had just purchased an adorable black baby bear hat (for no real reason…I’ve never been asked to do a black-on-black newborn photography session) and it was just right for her shoot. All I had to do was find a black backdrop and wrap, and we were good to go!

A great tip I’ve learned is to use different textures when working with the same color, that way the light can play differently on each piece.
