Baby Ella | Newborn Session

It’s an absolute joy to work with newborns and their families. I’m often asked to photography mommy while she’s carrying baby, and then I get to have baby in the studio for her newborn session. That was the case with Baby Ella. She and her family were a pleasure to work with. Ella was such a sweet little sleeper which made her session run smoothly. This was a major benefit because we had a lot to accomplish in just a few hours.

This shoot was a combination of two sessions. Mom and dad purchased two different packages, one wrapped session for Baby Ella and one lifestyle session for the whole family.

For the lifestyle session, I chose to set up the natural light area of the studio and use a comfy, cozy studio bed. This allowed us to have a different tone in each of the separate sessions, and still manage to get it all done in just a few hours.

Newborn sessions require a lot of posing. I have to be very careful to get baby in and out of certain positions while not disturbing her sleep. Lifestyle sessions are much more laid back. The idea is to capture the small moments that happen during more natural interactions. Of course, to keep things comfortable, I do tend to give a little direction. Baby Ella and her family were complete naturals, though, and that made it easy to capture these adorable photos.

As part of the purchased package, I provide proofing galleries for parents to choose the photos that they want edited or touched up. Black and white images conjure up feelings of timelessness and elegance, and I sometimes provide copies in this style for parents to choose from.
